Meet Your Music Teacher

Ms. Bunnell

My name is Emily Bunnell and I am so excited to be Carver Elementary's music specialist teacher for the 2019-2020 school year! I graduated in 2018 from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN with a Bachelor of Music degree in Classroom and Instrumental music. I played flute in the St. Olaf Band all four years there and served as a music librarian during three of those years. Music has always been special to me - from listening to my dad play piano when I was young, to performing at Carnegie Hall in college, I've always found incredible joy in performing, listening, and responding to music. My passion for education and love for music are why I love being Carver's music teacher!

When I'm not teaching, I love to cook, spend time outdoors (see pictures above), and play games with friends and family. I love being creative in my cooking and trying new foods/restaurants. When I'm not at school, you can often find me outside hiking, camping, or visiting new parks. I've spent a lot of time this past year exploring and hiking in new places, including many state parks in Minnesota, Glacier National Park in Montana, Sleeping Giant Provincial Park in Canada, and the Eastern Sierras of Northern California. I love spending my summers relaxing on Minnesota's North Shore and enjoy the lake life. I like to spend lots of time with my friends and family playing card games, tossing a frisbee, and playing lawn games! My family knows I can get a little competitive so watch out - we'll be playing lots of music games this year in class!

In music, we focus on creative and collaborative learning. I use techniques from the Responsive Classroom framework to build community and engage in Restorative Practices such as mindfulness lessons, restorative circles, and social and emotional learning.
